My career hasn't been linear - and that's my superpower

The timeline

2000s: Breaking into music journalism

I graduated with a journalism degree from London College of Communication in 2002, landed my first job at BBC Newsround, and hustled as a freelance writer. By 2005, I was freelancing full-time as a music journalist and digital content producer at ITN. Covered countless gigs, interviewed legends like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys, and in 2007, bagged a Record of the Day Award for Music Journalism & PR for features in The Independent (read them here).

2008: Plan B – Teaching & Education

Earned a PGCE while still freelancing, blending journalism with education. Worked with social enterprises, teaching and mentoring young people to create magazines—laying the foundation for my future in higher education and creative workshops.

2010s: Blogging & Culture Club Events

Created my blog The Cultural Exposé, trained as a photographer, and monetised both through partnerships with brands like Perrier and BAFTA. Launched  The Culture Club meetup events service which evolved into The Culture Club Photography Workshops. A major highlight? Curating events with Tate Modern and the V&A.

2015: Return to media and transition to brands

Joined Time Out full-time to manage a blogger community, write an online fitness column, and transition from editorial to branded content. Worked with the creative solutions team on campaigns for Asics, Samsung, and Acuvue. In 2017, I took my expertise agency-side, shaping content at a leading content marketing agency.

2018: Fly Girl Collective

Founded Fly Girl Collective, one of the first all-female running communities for black women and women of colour in London. At the same time, I was headhunted to lead the commercial content at a major travel e-commerce brand, working on projects for GoPro, British Airways and Singapore Airlines.

2020: Creative Leadership

Headhunted as Head of Content & Social at premium activewear brand Sweaty Betty, where I shaped the brand’s content storytelling and social strategy—leading the charge on a major collaboration with Hollywood icon Halle Berry. Watch the advert I wrote for the exclusive collection launch here.

2022: Editorial Director & Industry Influence

Stepped into the role of Editorial Director at global advertising and marketing agency Dentsu, leading the content department and shaping content strategy for major brands. Also served as a judge and juror for high-profile industry awards including Cannes Lions, Eurobest and D&AD, recognising creative excellence in content and brand storytelling.

2025: The Coaching Era

Drawing from my entrepreneurial, corporate and creative leadership experience, I’m now coaching ambitious women—helping them navigate change, build confidence, and achieve success on their own terms.

The Connection Between Creativity, Leadership & Coaching

On paper, journalism, creative strategy, and coaching might seem like three completely different careers. In reality? They’re all about the same thing: transformation.

Whether I’m shaping brand stories, leading creative teams, mentoring new runners, or coaching ambitious women to take up space, my work has always been about moving people and ideas forward—with purpose.

  • Storytelling: Crafting narratives that don’t just sound good but create real impact.
  • Strategy: Helping brands and individuals make the right moves.
  • Movement: Because progress—whether in business, creativity, or life—is about momentum.

Beyond the Bio: A Few Things About Me

Outside of work, I’m always down for an adventure—whether that’s running races, checking out new exhibitions, or discovering dope artists. My Christian faith keeps me grounded, shaping how I move through life, work, and community. At the heart of it all, I’m about growth, purpose, and saying ‘yes’!

A few more things you should know:

  • Texas-born, London-rooted. Been in the UK for 30+ years, so I’m a Londoner through and through… just with a little Southern charm.
  • I love a challenge. 50+ races deep—including an ultramarathon, Tough Mudder, and five marathons (Tokyo, London twice, Paris, and some random one in Kent). Always up for pushing my limits.
  • Faith is my anchor. It’s the foundation of how I work, how I show up, and how I move with intention.
  • Travel keeps me inspired. New York, Rome, and Thailand have my heart, but I’m always plotting my next trip.
  • Peppermint tea is my love language. Refreshing, stress-relieving, and caffeine-free—what’s not to love?
  • Red lipstick = game face. If I’ve got a red lip on, I mean business.
  • Music is life. Robert Glasper, Cleo Sol, Madison Ryann Ward, Alex Isley, Ezra Collective, and Kendrick Lamar stay in rotation—along with a side of electro, gospel, and ‘80s pop. And when it comes to festivals, North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam is my happy place.
